Nalanda is a large Buddhist monastery in the famous kingdom of Magadha in India. It is a famous Institution of learning Vedic culture. Nalanda means 'giver of knowledge'. Not only Gautama Budhha but also Mahavira stayed at Nalanda during the rainy season. Nalanda University was established during the Gupta period and it is 80 km away from Patna. 

Mainly, Nalanda is famous and well known for Nalanda University, but there are many variation of many famous places also.

Nalanda is a famous place but it can very good trip for you if you visit here during October to March. The ideal duration of traveling here is 1 day. But if you want to stay more than 1 day that as per your choice.

Nalanda is a best city to visit in Bihar. It is well connected with other cities of India by regular trains. You can also easily get Bus services from other cities of India. 

By Air: The nearest airport is Patna Airport ( Loknayak Jayaprakash Airport) which is 57 km away from Nalanda. This airport is well connected with other major cities of India, like- Mumbai, Jaipur, Bengaluru, Kolkata, New Delhi etc. After reach the airport you can hire a taxi to Nalanda. 

By Train : Nearest railway station is Rajgir which is located 12 km away from Nalanda. This railway station is well connected with Delhi, Patna, Gaya and other important cities of India. From the Station taxi services are available for Nalanda. 

By Road: There is excellent road network that covers Nalanda. By this road network Nalanda is well connected with other major cities of  India, like - Patna, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai. But cost fee may be extra if you hire a taxi. But bus services are available from here.
